Online comic

This is the comic book page i used on the final page. i added a flash banner on the right and on the bottom of the page

Online comic

This is the enter page idea. I endered up using my 1st layout design as i was in a rush to get it finsihed. im not happy with the outcome of this page, if i had more time on this i would have created a flash opeing page where the lights from the crystal in the image grew out form the crystal, also i would have had a loading bar.

Online comic

This is the backgroud image before i added the the comic cells. I wish i had more time to deveolp this background idea as im not happy with the outcome of it.

Online comic

its been a while since ive posted on my blog havent had the internet at home for a bit. These are the angel ideas for the comic. In the story he,s the guardian of the sword. Im kind of happy with the image it took me a while n i still dont think it qiute looks right or that the wings fit as well as they should in the piece.

idea for character deign 3 page web

Style idea for the character designs for my project.

Mcdonalds site

I liked the style of the McDonald's site. I couldn't really understand it as it was in Japanese, but i really like the simplistic style and graphics from the simple loading bar, to the little animations running across the bottom of the main pageI'm guessing the user enters his or hers picture by email and the image is put on the MacDonald avatars on the site. The site was strange to use as it was in Japanese but from the looks of the design and layout if it had of been in English it would have been more than likely very easy to understand and navigate.

thefwa.com

Dragon Hunters. I really liked the layout and style of this page. It had simple animations with very detailed cartoon graphics. i found the page easy to use, using the mouse to navigate left and right of the web page.the movement of the dragon hunters flying device was annoying after a while i think it could have stayed with the mouse more when the user moves around. All in all tho i feel this site works well ion advertising the game, the graphics are very well done, and even the back drop is lavishly detailed.

Now

I wasn't keen on now when i 1st used it. the main feature i like about the site is the library book search. I think the site looks basic but it does its job and the information is relevant to the course well there was an overview of uni, i couldn't find to much information regarding web design, but the site's still being worked on.

IDEO

I don't like ideo's main page, it seems to cluttered, but when you click on and go to the the latest work page, the layout in my eyes works better. its more clean cut and the user can scroll thought the work. the content is relevant, and the idea to show case a lot of there work on the main page as a background is innovative but i just don't like the layout or style of the site. from looking through the site, most of the pages are every cluttered. You can tell the design has been well thought through i just didn't like the style of it

Sony

The Sony site was very simialer to the Apple site with the clean cut design and simlpe easy to use layout and user interface. the sony site uses a white backgroun and grey tabs shame as apple, but i think the Apple site works better with design layout and style. The content is relevant, shows all the products and information and all the tabs are easy to use.

Apple

This it the start up page for Apple site. Has a tab bar running across the top with all the different sections easily assessable. the page it very clean cut and stylish much like the apple products. Apple know how to design, i have a desk top mac and its very stylishly designed. the site is very user friendly all the sections are clearly lalbeled. the colour stlye is followed throught the site, white background and grey tabs. apples site is one of my favs sites just from the style and ease of use to buy products.

Joel Schafer

Joel started web design when he bought a html book in 1997 and carried through to being a graduate in web and media production. joels interview was short and sweet. he describes his work process, where he starts, and what key pionts he considers so follws,

"Coffee is very important and, of course, reading designer magazines and check award sites for inspiration. I always write down everything to paper before starting a software."
Joel schafer/ www.designinterviews.com

This thought process is realy the way to go with design work, putting pen to paper 1st, or roughing the design on paper.

he goes on to say that the next big deveopment in webpage design will be interactivity with 3d and movie clips.

Joel works clean and minimal with his design work for ease of use for the user. i hate web pages that are hard to navigate.

At the end of the interview he gives some advice for web design beginers, saying a good starting piont would be to check award sites for inspiration, read design magainzes and alwasy make a manusript before you start to produce.

report on my choice for my 1st assessed project

After much thinking i have decided to based my three page web page on an area that reflects my personal enthusiasms. Im making the design manga based.

Maybe look at a online comic book page, taking influences from pages such as Mega Tokyo, and creating a comic book site where user up load there comic, and the site offers tutorials for user to complete and do in the online forums.
Or maybe looking at designing a page for a manga avatar site, such as MechQuest where users can interact online.

i want to make the site interactive for the user, if i was designing the avatar site, an idea might be to let the user create there own avatar, which would probs mean it would have to be created in 2d, but from the looks of Mechquest is looks 2d based. to be honest tho i prefer working 2d, but i know i will have to better my 3d skills in time.

Another idea was to create a moch page advertising a manga game or animation. Taking ideas from my favourite manga films, for the style layout of the page.

I also want to get back into drawing and lean how to create digitaly Art work so im hoping this will make me get back into the process as i wouldn't to create the characters for the page on paper, then scan and paint the ditialy on my mac to create the effect im after.

I like the idea of making the site as a RPG , Avatar style, where the user designs his own character use in the online world. Could have a forum on the site as well and the option of the user designing building that would be implemented into the online world.
The site could ahve templates available if some isn't as gd at drawing they could download and customise to how they want.

i feel this would give people who enjoy drawing manga, share there ideas and loves in an online environment.

Fr this project im going to take inspiration from Final Fantasy, mega Tokyo, MechQuest and also various manga films such as, Ghost in the Shell, Spirted Away, Holws Moving Castle

Dan Saffer

From reading the interview by Dan Saffer concerning the question, self teaching vs design education, Dans views are that design eduction has been intrusmental in his design learning. He stated that Interaction design and typography education changed the way he thought about design and influenced the work he did.

Dan praises the education he gained but also praise's self teaching,
'All that being said, there is certainly value in learning things on your own. There are lots of good books out there now that, when combined with trying out what they suggest with hands-on work, can give you a foundation you can use for design'

which is true, if you want a board knowledge of design and be up to date on design, you need self teaching along side education.

He goes on to state that having a board knowledge of other design principles goes a long way, such as film making , art and biology. When asked what are the core elements of an interaction that web designers measure during the creative process, Saffer goes on to say,

'Usefulness, usability, and desirability. If your design fills a need in people's lives, works well, and looks beautiful, you've got design gold. There are lots of secondary characteristics that fall under these headings, like efficiency and balance and trustworthiness and a whole host of other traits, most of which can only be fuzzily measured but are important nonetheless'.
quote taken from Dan Saffer/ Design interviews.

This quote says it all really about about what web design should be about. usability and the style of the web page are the main things to consider when designing a web page.

He later talk abouts touchscreen devices and how designers need to learn about these new devices if they want to succeed in interaction design. One thing i want to look into this year is implementing touchscreen and sensors into my design work.

lol

Interesting t-shirts designs ive found, will have a better look into them.

This is the preloader for the interactive page. This took a lot longer to create than i first though. Im pleased with the out come though, given more time i would have changed the image on the preloader to one of me at the gym.

This is my gym page. i created this as i wanted part of my interactive page to show my love of going to the gym. The idea was to have a pen come on the page and draw out me doing different exercises but this would have been very time consuming. I created some small movie clips of me at the gym and set them up to play on my phone screen. I would have wanted to make the movie files longer and let the user choose the exercises i do.

This is my gallery page. I couldnt get the coding to work for a slideshow in the camera viewer, the effect i was after was when the user clicked on the image in the camera viewer the image would be printed out the printer then the photos could be moves around the page.

This is my freelance artwork page. Im happy with the animations on this page. I wanted to get the images to turn with the pages but i would have had to transform all the images page by page.

This is the manga page. i wanted to have the sketch book open so the user could flick through my artwork, but didn't have the time to create the animations for it. The films titles on the notepad are invisible hit buttons to play the movie clips in the ipod.

This is the homepage of my Interactive flash project. Im happy with the design outcome, the main thing im unhappy with is the mp3 player. It only plays one of the songs from the track list and the volume slider kept getting compiler errors so i had to comment the coding out using //

This box is for me to showcase my work, and what i like and enjoy. i might have to create something in 3d max and import my flash file on to it. An idea would be to create a room with a dj box and use a plane and import my file of the bro djing that has been rotoscoped in flash and paste it onto the plane. then i can have my freelance work up on the walls, and have a plane over the dj box with a flash movie playing of piece of my work and movie clips.

Another idea would be to use my bro djing as the main page of my flash file. and have sections i can go to on the page. when one of these links is clicked my bro changes the vinyl and the page changes. each page can play a different track and have a flash file of things I'm interested in and my work.

This is my second Rotoscoping attempt. I wanted to have a try with a photo taken from the back. I'm no0t sure if the camera will move round or not yet, think its best to have the camera in 1 place where i can see my bro djing and the records hes spinning

This is my 1st Rotoscroping attempt. I'm happy with the outcome, it took me about 15mins to create it. Now i know how to do it, and that the effect works I'm going to spend more time on it.

This is the kind of style I'm after for mine, i want it a bit more of a rougher style tho like the end of the Linkin Park clip 'Breaking The Habbit' I've put in my blog earlier. I don't want the movement effects as fast tho, just really be the hands moving when mixing and changing the records

This is the kind of image set out i want for my piece I'm going to film my bro djing. I'm going to run the clip into Flash, and add another layer and slowly edit over every frame then after Ive done enough frames, delete the movie layer and play the edited layer. I'm thinking of having a go with this clip well part of it just to see if the idea will work before i spend to much time on it. I'm going to find some more information on this animation process.

Tuesday, 11 March 2008

This is another Rotoscoping video i found. i like the drawn pencil effect achieve, i want to use colour in mine but i want a really ruff feel to it showing a lot of movement. below if some information i found ion this animtion stlye.

*The technique was invented by Max Fleischer, who used it in his series Out of the Inkwell starting around 1915.

*Walt Disney and his animators employed it carefully and very effectively in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs in 1937. was also used in many of Disney's subsequent animated feature films with human characters, such as Cinderella in 1950.

*The term "rotoscoping" (typically abbreviated as "roto") is now generally used for the corresponding all-digital process of tracing outlines over digital film images to produce digital mattes.

This is a film i bought ages back, i got it cos it was based on Philip K Dick's book, and it was one of his books that blade runner was based on. I found out the effect is achieve by rotoscoping. You take each frame of the live action film and trace over it, and merge similar colors in the real film into bigger pools of color. I'm going to have a look at this technique

This is the effect i was on about, i like the drawn rouhg effect you get when there is movenemnt, i think this would look good with my bro djing i could add some rough stlye lighing effects. im going to draw some drawings like these and run them through falsh and see what it does.

These are a few pictures of my bro djing, im going to do some drawings from these pictures, im not sure weither i want to use a photorealistic picture or make it inot an animation. if where using flash, ive seen a few people draw over frames and make them animated, i like the look of this, i will add some of the images on the blg now to show the effect.

This is my bro djing at Xstatic at the Venue. I need to gather a few pics of him djing for refernace.

For my interactive box, i wanted to add a few elements together, i one of my ideas was to use my bro as a character to play the music, say behind some decks and each deck goes to a different page when its put down. music can be played thought the piece. Another idea was to use my self in the gym as i train a few days a week.
The Interactive Box

How am i going to use interactive design to reflect myself and professional identity in an on line bow/showcase that contains five interactive objects that tell a story about who i am?
Well, since one of the objects is my avatar i need to think of four things that say who i am. I think my art work and freelance work should go in as it shows my creative side, and also having an interactive object of me at the gym since i train nearly 5 days a week. I want to add music to this piece aswell, i want to show my love for rock and hardhouse music somehow, maybe one of my interacitve objects can play music as the viwer looks round my box.
After numerous problems i finally got to render today. i had to take the ray trace off all the Windows as this was making a render time of 1.30 per file, it now runs at 8 seconds a file. juts got to put it into premier and hopefully i will be finished on time. I've enjoyed this project, but think i spent to much time in development. more still renders to be added. I'm going to upload my ideas for the interactive box design on the blog now.

This is a rendered image of the attempt i had at the UVW Unwrp function on 2dmax using my image from photoshop. this process was i lot more complex than i expected. I added the attempt anyway, with more time and better know how i would have liked to have created my avatar in this way

This is a rendered image of my enviroment with my charactor placed iinside. My avatars file got currpurted so i had to restart huim, i couldnt finish another 3d design in time so i made him 2d. ive added a sky to the piece, but it needs making larger so the camera dont shoot off.

This render image shows the other half of asda and part of the cinema. This shot was need to see what i need to add to the left hand side to hind there fact there was no more biuldings there. u used trees but i need to make them higher.

This is a rendered image of the left hand side of my street showing the art shop, o2 gym and part of asda. I added a larger grass area near the art shop and a little wood land area. i thought this would help make my environment look bigger but not take me to long to achieve.I need to make the tress bigger tho. i also added some lamp posts into my design. i might light these but, i wanted my town to be light in the day time, so I'm not sure what to do yet.

This is a render image to see what i needed behind the asda building to give more dept to my environment. i did want to build a little town environment, but i found this would take way to long with how much i knew of 3dmax at the time. sop i used flat images behind the asda building.I need to add a sky for my camera shots.

I decided i wanted to add anohter part to the clothes shop, and put in my own top designs. i found it hard to make a maniquine to put the tops on so after a few atmepst i ended up just making them rectangle. Im happy i got my top designs up in the shop tho. If i could design the shop again and new more about 3d max i would make it more open plan with lots of glass. just needs the roof and the window on the side

This is the rendered images with the table and the grass and concreate added. i aslo added a few tress to the picec to give it a more natural look.

I decided i wanted a chill out area outside the gym. when I'm at the gym its a social interaction as well was working out. so i felt a chill out area was needed. i gave it a natural feel, as its a more healthy atmosphere. i need to add a table and grass area to the chill out area, and also some paving near the door.

Apple also have a download section on there site for users. I found the interaction on this site very easy

This it the start up page for Apple site. This site had a similar design elements to the Sony site. Has a tap bar running across the top with all the different sections easily assessable. the page it very clean cut and stylish much like the apple products. Apple know how to design, i own one of the desk tops mac and is very stylishly designed, even the keyboard and mouse ain't left out.

Sony as lo had a business section to its web page for commercial users. This was layout out the same as the consumer site, in a stylish and innovative fashion.

This is the sony site. As you would expect from sony this site layout is modern and stylish. The range of products is layout out orderly on the left, all the information on the products is layout out near the image. This site reflects the philosophy of the company’s brand in the same way as there products, sleek stylish and modern. i found the interaction design elements very easy to use the site all fitted togehter nicely.

This is a page on NetDiver i found where the uswer can download free fonts in also had Graphic and Design resources, stock images and links to other on line magainzes.

Page off NetDiver showings its information layout. very similar to my blogger layout. I ain't keen on the bright yellow and black logo on top of the screen print before, was a bit to in your face for my liking.

This is the Netdiver site. This site as set out like a blog, with posts down the left hand side of the page. the posts had links to where there where from. i found the information very use full its packed full of new and innovative designs.

This is a screen shot from IDEO'S site. Has a very simple yet effective layout design.

IDEO identity cards

This is a web site showing conceptual business card ideas. i found this site very user friendly and the layout had been well thought through and was well organised using a an image bar across the top where the user can click and see an enlarged image and information about the concept project. the site reflect the philosophy of the company’s brand as a modern forward thinking company applying old and new technoloys in a innotive approach.

"Here", I said to Newsnight's real life editor Peter Barron, "why don't we broadcast Newsnight from inside a computer game."

Because the virtual money inside Second Life is convertible to US dollars, and people who make things can keep the intellectual property, it is possible to run a real life business inside the game.

I got in touch with Cory Edo - real name Sara Van Gorden - who runs a business in Second Life designing avatars - the idealised 3D personas that people use as their online identities.

Cory recreated the Newsnight set, Jeremy Paxman and myself - the latter with wrinkles and stubble rendered in full 3D realism, sadly - so we could record the historic "two-way" that will go out before my piece on online games.

A side of Jeremy Paxman the viewers just don't get to see
"For the creation of photorealistic skins such as the ones that were used on the Newsnight project," says Cory, "I took the face shot that was sent to us and split it in half, pasted this into the skin grid file, and duplicated it on the other side.

"After that, it was mostly adjusting things like the nose shading and the eye placement to fit the grid, and adding additional shading around the sides."
